Former Deputy Prime Minister: I Think Minnis Should Retire

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With the Free National Movement still getting the heat from it’s decision to not ratify former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis in the next General Election, former Deputy Prime Minister Brent Symonette believes it will help push the party forward.

FNM Leader Michael Pintard told a packed Mackey Street headquarters on Sunday that he has asked Dr. Minnis not to run in the upcoming general election.

Pintard said the reality is, not everybody is going to serve as a candidate to demonstrate their value.

Pintard however admitted that Minnis did not agree not to seek reelection.

Symonette believes Dr. Minnis should just retire.

Many have weighed in on the FNM’s decision. Former FNM Cabinet Minister and DNA Leader Branville McCartney questioned the move saying if it ain’t broke not to fix it. While a few of his constituents sided with Dr. Minnis.

It has been radio silence in the Minnis camp in recent days, attempts to reach Dr. Minnis have been unsuccessful.

It is unclear if Dr. Minnis will bow out, side with another party, or run as an independent.

We asked Symonette if this will impact the FNM’s ability to retain the killarney seat. He says it all depends on if Dr. Minnis runs as an independent candidate.
