Goombay Summer Festival Makes A Splash On Taino Beach

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Grand Bahama’s very own Minister Ginger Moxey proudly declared the island as the birthplace of the Goombay Summer Festival, saying:
“We started it! You know we are the home of events and entertainment. Goombay Grand Bahama Island is so special, yes, it started here, and I’d say it trickled onto the other islands.”

She made it clear that no one does it quite like Grand Bahama.

Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, the festival series takes place throughout The Bahamas, showcasing the nation’s rich ancestral heritage through music, food, and entertainment.

Having enjoyed Goombay events in Nassau over the years, this was my first time experiencing the festival in Grand Bahama, and it did not disappoint. I came with high expectations, and they were met from the moment I stepped onto Taino Beach.

Hundreds of locals and visitors gathered to enjoy cultural cuisine, sweet Bahamian treats, and live music that brought the energy of the island to life.

The night ended on a high note with a dynamic performance from DMAC, who blended the rhythmic sounds of rake n’ scrape with reggae, capturing the evolution of Bahamian music and culture.

Anya Hanna, an officer at the Ministry of Tourism, says Goombay isn’t just an event, it’s an experience that keeps people coming back for more.

“It’s a family-friendly environment. A lot of locals plan their vacation around this time of year just to attend the Goombay Summer Festival here at Taino Beach.”
