AOL Set To Pull The Plug On Iconic Dial Up Internet Service
UNITED STATES – AOL is ending its dial-up internet service on September 30th, closing a chapter on the early era of online connectivity while maintaining other plan benefits.
UNITED STATES – After more than 30 years, AOL is officially ending its dial-up internet service.
The company announced on its website that the service and dialer software will be discontinued on September 30th. AOL assures customers that other plan benefits will remain unaffected.
This move marks the end of an era defined by the iconic dial-up tone and the early days of getting online.
Originally known as America Online, the company rebranded as AOL in 2006, shut down its AIM messaging service in 2017, and was acquired by Apollo Global Management in 2021, becoming part of Yahoo! Inc.
