Higgs, Nesbitt Lead Team Bahamas To Win Over Suriname
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – Team Bahamas bounced back in a major way at the CBC Women’s Championship, cruising to a 77–45 win over Suriname in Georgetown, Guyana.
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – Team Bahamas bounced back in a major way at the CBC Women’s Championship, cruising to a 77–45 win over Suriname in Georgetown, Guyana.
After combining for 58 in the opener, the dynamic backcourt of Lashann Higgs and Valerie Nesbitt took over again, this time with Higgs leading the charge.
She dropped a game-high 35 points, hitting 7 threes while adding 7 rebounds and 7 assists in a dominant all-around performance.
Nesbitt followed with a double-double: 13 points and a game-high 11 assists.
Michell Butler added 10 points, while Judy Forbes and Valicia Demeritte chipped in 6 each.
Team Bahamas set the tone early, winning the first quarter 20–15 and blowing the game open with a 38–14 run over the next two periods.
BAISS Crowns New Champions on the Diamond
A full slate of BAISS baseball and softball titles were decided this week:
- Junior Boys: St. Anne’s Blue Waves go back-to-back with a sweep over QC.
- Junior Girls: SAC’s Big Red Machine reclaims the title, sweeping QC.
- Senior Girls: QC flips the script, sweeping SAC.
- Senior Boys: SAC vs. QC is headed to a decisive Game 3 tonight.

The Don’t Blink Home Run Derby continues to scale up.
Co-founder Todd Isaacs Jr. revealed that this year’s event will now feature women’s professional softball players, expanding the competition.
Co-founder Lucius Fox added that the event, now in its 8th year, remains focused on sports tourism, youth engagement, and showcasing Bahamian talent on a global stage.
