Assistant Superintendent of Police Darrell Ferguson has proudly served in the Royal Bahamas Police Force for 37 years.

However, it was 33 years ago that he experienced one of his most significant achievements — the day he became a father. He recounts the emotional moment that transformed his outlook on life.

And the safety he sought to provide came with him risking his own life each time he went to work.

He says the fear of not returning home to his family haunted him.

Ferguson faced additional struggles, but he says he recognized that his village was a source of support.
