UNITED STATES – Prince Strachan played a big part in yesterday’s matchup between his West Virginia Mountaineers and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Strachan missed the first two games of the season, and he saw limited snaps in the next two, but he was all in this game. He was 2nd on the team in catches with 3 and with receiving yards with 41.

Unfortunately for Prince, the Mountaineers would fall short, losing 45-42.

This game was a wild one. West Virginia quarterback Michael Hawkins completed only 11 of 23 passes for 228 yards, but he toted that rock, rushing 20 times for 149 yards to lead the team. Running back Cam Cook had 20 rushes as well for 142 yards.

Iowa State running back Aidan Flora was a problem that could not be solved. He ran roughshod, logging 212 yards on 22 rushes, and he threw for 48 yards and two touchdowns because Iowa State brought out all the shenanigans.

Strachan was expected to play a big role as a deep threat in west Virginia’s offense. He hasn’t gotten loose yet, but this game is a step in the right direction.

Baseball

New York Yankees’ second baseman Jazz Chisholm and Atlanta Braves first base coach Antoan Richardson’s teams both played last night.

Jazz went 0-2, but he reached base on a walk, and he stole his third base of the postseason, but he couldn’t find his way home in the yanks’ 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tampa starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen was locked in all night, giving up one run in 8 innings. Gerrit Cole got the loss on the mound for the yanks.

Antoan Richardson and the Braves also took a loss. They fell 5-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers out on the West coast.

The Braves got on the board with a Sean Murphy home run, and they tried to stage a late rally when Ozzie Albies hit another home run in the top of the 9th, but Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips forced a Cam Riley groundout to end the game.
