INDONESIA – A police chief in Indonesia has been sacked, nine officers suspended and 18 others are under investigation for their roles in a stampede at a football game where 125 people, including 32 children, were killed.
INDONESIA – A police chief in Indonesia has been sacked, nine officers suspended and 18 others are under investigation for their roles in a stampede at a football game where 125 people, including 32 children, were killed.
Football fans reportedly died in the arms of players after police repeatedly fired tear gas at fans who invaded the pitch at the end of the match.
More than 320 people were injured when supporters were trampled and suffocated trying to escape the tear gas.
Police fired after fans of the home team ran onto the pitch when the match ended in a defeat to their rivals.
Show fans were seen clambering over fences with eyewitnesses accounts of kids crying and women fainting.
All matches in Indonesia are suspended pending a full investigation.
