Consumers to Pay More for Power, PM Announces

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis asking Bahamians to hang in there just a while longer as he announced an increase in power bills that will take effect in November.

The sliding scale increase is only expected to last 28 months.

It’s a move the PM says couldn’t be postponed any longer.

Bahamas Power and Light says the adjustment to monthly fuel charges is due to the rising cost of fuel.

Officials say the move is to ensure the sustainability of the power company’s operations and its ability to fulfill its mandate.

But what will it mean for customer’s pockets?

Davis says the increase will be incremental – a move they say will  soften the blow.

The prime minister says bills are expected to decrease in 12 to 18 months.

The news comes as many are only now beginning to bounce back post-COVID-19.
