NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Here are some interesting facts to note on this day in history. In 1899 the Second Boer war, also known as the South African War, began. It was a conflict  between the British empire and the two Boer republics over influence in Southern Africa.

British troops destroyed farms and slaughtered livestock. They denied locals more than a hundred thousand boer civilians were forcibly relocated into concentration camps,eventually dying from starvation and disease.

In 2002 an explosion ripped through a shopping mall in Vantaa, Finland killing five people. The explosion injured 80 people.

The suspect identified as a 19-year-old student at a technical school was among the victims.
