Abaco Man On Gun and Drug Charges Remanded

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An Abaco businessman facing gun and drug charges was remanded to prison despite being granted $40,000 bail by a magistrate. 

Charles Bodie, 59, of Murphy Town, appeared before Magistrate Samuel Mckinney Thursday on multiple charges that stem from an October 7 raid at his business BEM Automotive.

The officers allegedly found cocaine and marijuana, with a collected value of $300,000, three firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition of multiple calibers during a search of the premises.

They allegedly seized a 7.62 rifle, an Austrian Glock 9mm pistol, a Remington 9mm pistol, 112 rounds of ammunition, two kilos of cocaine and 290 pounds of marijuana.

Bodie pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition and possession of firearms with intent to supply, drug possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply.

Mckinney set a trial date for November 19 and granted Bodie $40,000 bail.

However, the prosecutor Inspector Kendrick Bauld told the magistrate that he was seeking a review of his bail decision.

As a result, Bodie’s release on was suspended.

The law requires that the bail review take place within two working days.
