PM: “Intervention is Necessary” in Haiti
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis weighing in on the possibility of Bahamian boots being on the ground in Haiti, speaking on the sidelines of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomat week.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis weighing in on the possibility of Bahamian boots being on the ground in Haiti, speaking on the sidelines of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomat week.
Between the assassination of their president last summer, rampant crime, continued high-levels of irregular migration and the new cholera outbreak, the crisis in Haiti has naturally been a focus of discussion amongst CARICOM leaders.
After Tuesday night’s diplomat reception, Prime Minister Davis shared where The Bahamas currently stands in the talks.
If the United Nations follows through with a resolution to call for “armed forces” to create a humanitarian corridor in Haiti and work to loosen Haitian gangs’ stronghold of key areas, the prime minister affirmed The Bahamas would abide by the outcome of that resolution.
In the meantime, the prime minister addressed the continued struggle with managing Bahamian borders and controlling irregular migration.
