NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis signing an agreement with African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Wednesday, establishing a partnership for trade and project financing, export development, guarantees and trade information, as well as advisory services.

The Bahamas is not the first country in the region to partner with Afreximbank; Barbados was among other Caribbean countries recently inking a partnership deal with the bank.

Davis explains the new partnership will fill the gap for private sector businesses seeking international funding, which is presently not available through the Caribbean Development Bank.

“This partnership holds much promise,” Davis says.

Ayman El Zoghby, head of Trade and Corporate Finance Intra-African Trade Bank, says Afreximbank has built trade bridges for Africans, supporting African countries to grow and compete globally.

Now, El Zoghby says Afreximbank is bringing these efforts into the Caribbean to help diversify economies in the region.

According to Afreximbank’s website, its vision is to be the trade finance bank for Africa.
