NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Cabinet Minister George Smith has been appointed as a special advisor to the government for the country’s 50th independence events.

In a statement, Prime Minister Philip Davis said the preparation for and the celebration of events next year “must be worthy of this defining period in The Bahamas and the lives of its people.”

Smith says the appointment is an honor for him because he was tasked with the same duties for independence day back in 1973.
