Manuals Published to Address Handling Natural Disasters
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Six manuals have been compiled for Family Island officials detailing how to deal with natural disasters, according to the works minister.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After hurricane Dorian the government entered into an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank for a series of projects to help mitigate against future hurricanes. One of them – a pilot program in North Andros.
Works Minister, Alfred Sears says consultation with the community resulted in the publication of a land use planning toolkit for the Family Islands.
To break that down, six manuals have been compiled for Family Island officials detailing how to deal with natural disasters.
According to the IDB’s estimate, Sears says The Bahamas suffered damages of approximately $3.4 billion dollars – one fourth of the country’s GDP in 2018.
He says they are currently reviewing The Bahamas’ building code.
