NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The stories of hurricane Dorian survivors to be turned into a docu-series produced by communications professor, Dr. Juliette Storr. She says she hopes the docu-series can be used to help others that are experiencing disaster mental health symptoms.

Dr. Storr volunteered at shelters on New Providence following the deadly hurricane and recalls one of the stories that jumpstarted her passion for the project.

Then, just months later, the covid 19 pandemic essentially, made everything worse.

While many of the resources have been focused on rebuilding the devastated islands physical infrastructure, Dr. Storr says the mental health of those survivors must be a priority but she says, unfortunately, not everyone seeks help for their trauma.

If someone opens up to you about their experiences, Dr. Storr says you should not try to be the expert; rather, point them in the direction of the proper authorities.

Dr. Storr is currently seeking to begin filming the docu-series, D6, this summer with a release date for the end of the year.
