Bahamian author Keva Bethel is releasing a children’s book on the COVID-19 pandemic as seen through the eyes of a young Bahamian boy, who tries to make sense of life during the new normal.

“Adventures With Kohen: Coronavirus Changes Everything” is the first of the “Adventures With Kohen” mini-series by Bahamian author Keva Bethel. The children’s book, illustrated by Bahamian, Joel T. Murray, explores life in The Bahamas in the days after the first Covid-19 case was confirmed in the country.

Book two has already been approved for publication by Trilogy Christian Publishing, a subsidiary of religious television network giant, Trilogy Broadcasting Network. Bethell says real life events she endured during the first wave of lockdowns were influences in her first children’s book. As a researcher for the “Family: People Helping People Program”, Bethell says the pandemic affected her group therapy work with marginalized Bahamians.

Though her previous work was academic peer-reviewed papers and chapters in textbooks, Bethell wanted to try her hand at children’s literature to expand her audience. Her book was inspired by the last social gathering she attended before the pandemic started – a child’s birthday party.

The book will be released on January 20th by Trilogy Publishing. To get a copy, email adventureswithkohen@gmail.com.
