Students Return for Face-to-Face Instruction

Thousands of students returned to the classroom for face-to-face learning today. However, some teachers did not. A leaked voice note by Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson revealed a plan for teachers to call in.

Meanwhile, some parents had mixed feelings about sending their children to school during the fourth wave of COVID-19.

After months on the virtual platform, thousands of students returned to the classroom for face-to-face instructions Monday morning.

As parents lined up to drop their children off for the first day, some of them were apprehensive about in-person learning, during the current Covid climate. 

Schools were originally slated to resume hybrid instructions on January 11th, but due to a spike in Covid-10 cases in late December, officials decided to postpone face-to-face learning. 

Public schools students have been in a strictly virtual environment since September.

Back in October, education Director Marcellus Taylor said 30% of students weren’t showing up to the virtual platform.

Schools welcomed 50% of their students today.

Principals explained it will be different. 

However, The Bahamas union of teachers instructed its members to sit out today amid a myriad of issues. 

Despite the setback, principals are hopeful and had this bit of advice for parents still on the fence about bringing their students back to the classroom.
