Former Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands is officially nominated for chairman of the Free National Movement today. In doing so, he got the support of the first female speaker of the House of Assembly and dispelled rumors that he’s aiming for party leader.

With that, former Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands made his nomination for Free National Movement chairman official.

Sands today refuting claims that he may overshadow the party’s leader, saying he is a team player.

This as party insiders feel Sands may use this as a stepping stone to get to the leadership position.

This isn’t the first time the former Elizabeth MP went after a top spot within the FNM.

Back in 2016, Sands ran for the post of deputy leader, under former Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner.

He also previously served as deputy chairman and has offered himself for other roles as well.

He says his experience will play a vital role, if elected.

Following the party’s crushing defeat at the polls on September 16th, it was later revealed that most Bahamians didn’t turn out to vote.

Sands says the plan is to regain the trust and confidence of party supporters.
