B.U.T President Not Confident Schools Will Be Ready
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Less than a week away from the opening of government schools across the country, the Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson isn’t convinced schools will be ready for the opening.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Less than a week away from the opening of government schools across the country, the Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson isn’t convinced schools will be ready for the opening.
She hit out at the ministry’s approach.
Back in June, Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin revealed repairs for this school year will exceed $37 million.
Wilson says she’s hoping that in the future, work will begin as soon as the school year ends.
She also says the union has a checklist to ensure the schools are ready but adds a number of schools still need work done before Monday but that’s not the only issue.
Less than seven days from the first day of school, Wilson says teachers are still awaiting letters and funding for Family Island deployment.
Then there’s the age-old problem of teacher shortages.
