Former Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson K.C. is weighing-in describing the issue as a “very complex matter.”

The issue sparking debate following reports of an 11-year-old being impregnated by her mother’s boyfriend and the mother allegedly giving her abortion pills.

Abortions are currently illegal in The Bahamas save for when it happen’s to save a mother’s life.

Prime Minister Philip Davis said earlier this week that abortion is a personal matter.

It remains unclear whether the government will seek to amend abortion laws to decriminalise the issue in all cases.
