NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Scores of jobseekers came out this weekend in large numbers looking for a chance to join the Cable Bahamas Group of Companies.

Some assembled as early as 5 am Saturday morning to save their spots as the company promised on-the-spot hires.

Shannon Christie was among many people who braved the long lines and elements for an interview.

Christie, who is a nursing student at the University of The Bahamas, says finishing his degree is important, but securing a job is necessary to help with his everyday needs.

According to the Central Bank of The Bahamas, the unemployment rate declined by 70 basis points to 8.8% in May 2023, compared to May 2019.

Yet many persons remain unemployed and actively seeking work like Tasha Dorvilus who has been searching for a year with no luck yet.

Janelle Hutchison, Head of Training at Cable Bahamas Group of Companies says the effort is one of many in the company’s effort to fill roles and empower Bahamians.
