100 Financial Workers Staged Sickout

A sickout by public service financial and accounting officers continued for a second week, as officials work to remedy the situation.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A sickout by financial and accounting officers in the public service continued for a second week. The State Minister for the Public Service says the government will not be held hostage as officials work to remedy the issues.

Minister of State for the Public Service Pia Glover Rolle updated the media on the sickout staged last week by financial and accounting officers.

To date, Glover-Rolle says 30 officers have returned to work while many still remain out of the system.

Glover-Rolle added the matter has provided the government with a “timely opportunity”.

Over the weekend, the Ministry of Finance released a statement noting, as a result of the sickout $7 million was lost in government revenue.
