NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Online shopping is one of those conveniences that’s really catapulted us into the 21st century. 

A simple click-through allows you to compare prices, find the best deals and in some places, send it to your door-step. 

But there’s a dark-side.  A 2022 FBI report revealed over 12,000 consumers reported non-payment or non-delivery scams with losses over $70 million.

But how to avoid becoming a scamming victim? 

Director of Information Security at the Cable Bahamas Group of Companies Shakera Johnson says scams begin with hackers doing their homework.

Just last month, China’s most powerful internet regulator began a security review of the popular online clothing sit – Shein. The review is examining whether Shein is leaking personal information overseas. 

This now raises questions about third-party payment sites like PayPal.

If you’re unsure always look for “the lock.”

Two-factor authentication is helpful. Never share passwords, not even with your children and be on the lookout for phishing

A VPN also gives an added layer of protection.
