GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – It was a car ride that completely changed the life of Grand Bahama resident Kenyatta Lewis.

He claims back in 2012, he gave a woman a car ride but shortly after that ride, he was arrested and charged with attempted rape.

While Lewis maintains his innocence, he was found guilty of the crime in 2013 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison but his time was reduced to seven years. He was released in 2018.

Lewis says prison was tough.

He says he was 39 years old at the time of the incident which took a toll on his family.

Lewis says it was this advice from a fellow inmate that helped him to cope while in prison.

He’s seen his accuser since his release and says for him, there was never a thought of revenge in his mind.

Lewis encourages others that there is a life after prison as he is now an employee of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

With the country’s crime rate now at an alarming rate, Lewis is now visiting several schools to share his story to encourage young men that retaliation is not the answer.
