NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Dr. Dashawn Saunders has been practicing medicine for 18 years, 13 of those years have been focused in pediatrics.

In Kids First Pediatric’s new location on East Bay Street, they have a sensory room dedicated to screening little ones for autism.

How do you know if your child should be screened for autism?

Dr. Saunders tells us there are a variety of different tests that can be used as part of the screening process. Most often, these involve observing how children play and communicate.

The pediatrician’s autism advocacy goes beyond World Autism Day, serving in both the public and private sectors and as a board member for resources and education for autism and related challenges, also known as R.E.A.C.H.

She has this message for parents who are unsure if their child needs screening.
