Ex-Cop Sentenced to 2.5 Years For Drug Possession

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former policeman is now an inmate. Mario Newbold will spend the next two and a half years in prison after he was convicted of smuggling three kilos of cocaine.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former policeman is now an inmate.

Mario Newbold will spend the next two and a half years in prison after he was convicted of smuggling three kilos of cocaine on a charter flight.

On August 2, 2018, officers from the Drug Enforcement searched the plane after it arrived in New Providence from Eleuthera.

Police found the drugs in a bag that Newbold brought on the flight.

At the time of his arrest, Newbold was a police officer working at the Criminal Investigation Department.

Magistrate Samuel McKinney found Newbols guilty of drug possession with intent to supply following a trial.
