Scholar Questions Purpose of the Trip

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As The Bahamas prepares for the Royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, a local Bahamian scholar and professor looks towards a Bahamian future without the monarchy.

Bahamian scholar and playwright Dr. Nicolette Bethel questioned the purpose of the Royal visit in the days of a modern Bahamas. While also questioning The Bahamas footing much of the bill.

Bethel says she sees the possibility of The Bahamas leaving the Commonwealth in the future, possibly even this decade.

Bethel says, at the very least, Bahamians owe it to themselves to have the discussion.
