NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A local activist group is speaking up about violence against women and children saying enough is enough. Members of Women United Bahamas are calling for the Davis administration to quickly table, pass and enact it’s promised gender-based violence bill.

The Women United members, who included president Prodesta Moore and members Erin Brown, Robin Lynes, Khandi Gibson and Lisa Bostwick-Dean, did not hold back as they insisted legislators must act.

The issue of gender-based violence has remained in the spotlight in recent months.

Following the brutal murder of Heavenly Terveus by her boyfriend rattled the nation in January, Minister of State for Social Services Lisa Rahming said the government is planning to table a gender-based violence bill in the coming months.

Last month, Prime Minister Philip Davis said the attorney general is “looking into” what is being labelled as “domestic legislation” to ensure how that legislation can be used to advance the cause of gender equality in-country and lead to an approach to gender-based violence.

Members of Women United Bahamas say the time for talk is over.
