NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Trade Union Congress has been vocal on a number of issues, including minimum wage.

The last increase came in 2022 when Prime Minister Philip Davis announced a raise from $210 per week to $260, the first increase since 2015.

However, union President Obie Ferguson says statistics show that the current minimum wage of $260 simply no longer cuts it.

Ferguson has been vocal on a number of issues, including continual calls for a labor overhaul, as he emphasized in his Labor Day message to the country.

When it comes to a reasonable wage, he cites the high cost of living and inflation, not only in The Bahamas but around the world, as the main reasons for an increase.
