Sweden Confirms First Case Of MPOX, First Outside Africa

SWEDEN – Sweden reported its first case of MPOX on Thursday, marking the the first occurrence of the more contagious variant of the virus outside Africa.

The infection, linked to a recent outbreak in Africa, was confirmed just a day after the World Health Organization declared MPOX a global public health emergency.

Health officials confirmed the case involves the more severe clade I strain.

The infected individual is receiving appropriate care, according to Sweden’s public health agency.
