NEW YORK – While acknowledging progress on the climate front, Prime Minister Philip Davis told world leaders the progress falls far, far short of what is needed.

This grim story comes amid the reality of a climate crisis that has pushed the Earth’s temperature past a critical threshold of 1.5 degrees for the entire year.

The harsh reality translates into devastating hurricanes, neatwaves, fires and floods.

Davis questioned why it seems the global crisis has been placed on the backburner.

His impassioned plea comes as Hurricane Helene rips through parts of Florida, leaving many areas flooded and homes destroyed.

While The Bahamas has been speared the entire Caribbean remains in the heat of the hurricane season.

Global leaders heard that over 40 percent of the country’s national debt is a direct result of the impacts of climate change, making the issue more than just an environmental threat.

Davis reiterated the shortcomings of the loss and damage fund established at COP 28 which has secured $800m in pledges.

The Prime Minister highlighted the sum is a drop in the bucket when compared to the unprecedented 2.4 trillion dollar jump in the global military expense last year alone.
