Commonwealth Leaders To Defy UK On Slavery Reparations

SAMOA – We begin at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting – CHOGM – in Samoa. Where leaders are expected to push for discussions on reparations for the Transatlantic Slave Trade, while the U.K. has resisted.

Diplomatic sources say plans for research and meaningful conversations are in motion.

In a BBC interview this week, Bahamian Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell emphasized the issue requires “respect” and acknowledgment of past wrongs.

Though the UK has no plans to pay reparations, Caribbean nations continue to press for discussions.
