BAKU, AZERBAIJAN – Grenada’s Prime Minister and CARICOM head Dickon Mitchell spoke on the urgent realities of climate change at COP29 in Baku, sharing how his island nation was grappling with severe flash floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall.
Mitchell highlighted a 15-month drought his island endured, followed by Hurricane Beryl, which damaged or destroyed over 95% of buildings in affected areas.
He told the conference, “we’re not here to beg. It’s one planet. Today, it’s small islands; tomorrow, it could be Spain or Florida.”
Mitchell called for global partnership on climate financing to support resilience and adaptation worldwide.
