Fire Victim: To Lose Everything, It’s Traumatizing

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Rudean Fox has called the poinciana inn home since September 13th.

She says she’s had to stay there after losing everything. Her home was destroyed by fire just the day before.

“It’s about five families that were living in the house,” Fox said. “Everyone lost everything. I mean absolutely everything. We had nowhere to go no one to help.”

That experience, she shares, has changed her perspective on life.

“I grew up in a household where my mom was like the neighborhood mom,” Fox said.

“So I’m used to always being around tragedy and helping out as best as fit. But like I say me personally in one myself it’s a whole different aspect.”

While following the eviction of two women from that shelter this week, Fox acknowledges that government temporary shelters often get a bad rap. However, she says that has not been her experience, adding staff at that facility have treated her fairly.
