CUBA – Cuba’s national electrical grid collapsed early Wednesday after a failure at the Matanzas power plant, according to government, with the Energy Minister on record saying they expect a full recovery by Thursday.

The island’s aging oil-fired plants have struggled amid dwindling oil imports from Venezuela, Russia, and Mexico, causing repeated blackouts.

Officials said work and school activities were suspended, except for essential services.
