MAYAGUANA – Progress is finally taking off for the islands of Mayaguana and Exuma, as the government moves closer to delivering on its promise of modern Family Island airports.

After years of talk, Mayaguana’s long-awaited airport project is becoming a reality.

Deputy Prime Minister and Aviation Minister Chester Cooper, joined by Civil Aviation officials and the Airport Authority, toured Phase One of the new terminal, which is part of a $1.5 million public-private partnership with Mayaguana Island Developers.

Phase One is set for completion in mid-June, when operations will be handed over to the Airport Authority.

The current 2,000 square-foot terminal is just the start.

A planned expansion to 5,000 square feet is already on the table, estimated to cost $5 million.

Aviation Director Dr. Kenneth Romer says the airport upgrades in Mayaguana and Exuma are part of the broader Family Island Renaissance Program, which also includes projects in Bimini, Governor’s Harbour, and beyond.
