UNITED STATES – At least 20,000 U.S. federal workers have accepted president Trump’s deferred resignation offer, ABC news reports.

The White House program initially targeted 2 million employees and was aimed at shrinking the federal workforce by offering pay and benefits through September 30.

Some democrats already questioning the legality of the plan.

ABC reports the 20,000 represents about 1% of the civilian workforce, although the administration said it had hoped to attract between 5 and 10%.
