NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamasair is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, as the nation get set to mark the road to 50.

The airline was established by the Bahamian Government due to the need for flights across the country. Operations began on June 17, 1973 with first flights to Andros and Grand Bahama.

Managing Director Tracy Cooper says this year Bahamasair is looking to reintroduce cargo services all in an effort to become less dependent on government.

He adds that their fleet is also expanding in order to accommodate the demand.

Deputy Managing Director Prince Storr says there will be several activities throughout the year.

The first is the release of the company’s 2023 calendar which honors long serving employees. He says they’re also looking to put new murals on the aircraft.

Norma McPhee has been with the company since 1979 and started out as a flight attendant. She reflected on the time when she wrote tickets manually.
