NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s going to cost you a little more to replace or renew your driver’s license this year.

The Ministry of Transport and Housing announcing adjustments to fees for certain services offered by the Road Traffic Department, effective January 1, 2023.

New fees at the Road Traffic Department impacting several services including the issuance and renewal of commercial driver’s licenses, changing the photo on your driver’s license, replacement of a driver’s license and the renewal of a general driver’s license.

New services have also been added, including the option to renew a driver’s license for five years.

One driver says there were other residents who were caught off guard when they showed up at road traffic, however, they say they feel the fees must be accepted.

Another resident says she saw the changes posted on Facebook, but she was a bit concerned for those drivers who aren’t tech savvy.

The press release also notes that not all fees have been impacted, specifically Class A designation vehicles under 5,000 lbs. Most personal vehicles in The Bahamas fall under this designation, which include vehicles such as Honda Civics, Nissan Notes, Toyota Corollas and Suzuki Swifts.
