Basketball
One organization continues to use sports as a vehicle for community upliftment, youth empowerment, and social impact.
Grovemade Empire hosted its basketball tournament dubbed “Empire in the Cage,” held over the weekend at Edmund Moxey Park on Baillou Hill Road.
The event combined competition on the court with purpose off on the sidelines.
Beyond the scores and highlight plays, the event also focused on education, as representatives from the post savings bank conducted financial literacy sessions for the young athletes in attendance.
The day also served a greater purpose as a fundraiser to support medical expenses for the mother of Sylvano Gibson — a rising talent and product of Grovemade Empire – as she prepares for a medical procedure.
The tournament was sponsored by the Minister of Economic Affairs Michael Halkitis and featured community based teams in exciting matchups.
