NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Members of The Bahamas Unified Bus Drivers Union are furious after Transport Minister Jobeth-Colbey Davis did not announce approval for an increase in bus fares.

The union, which has been vocal on the issue for the past year claims they have not received an increase in over 10 years.

In the House of Assembly yesterday Minister Coleby-Davis revealed taxi drivers are set to receive a 10% increase, Union General Secretary Corvell Colebrooke describes it as foolishness.

Coleby-Davis announced that a meeting would be held with drivers to come to some solution.

This is not the first time the union has publicly blasted the minister. In August last year, the union called for her resignation over the same issue.

They said they felt insulted when she encouraged residents to report drivers who increase their fares. Colebrooke believes government is simply out of touch.

As for the transport ministry’s plans to review existing bus routes, Colebrook did not mince words.
