“Tonight is about showing The Bahamas putting its money where its mouth is. So we’re committing over a million dollars over the next three years to our foundation.”

Cable Bahamas,Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Solutions, Amber Carey, announced a major commitment as Cable Bahamas relaunched its Cable Cares Foundation on Thursday evening.

The foundation, which has been serving communities for three decades, is now being reintroduced with a renewed focus on impact and a $1 million pledge to support charitable and community-based initiatives throughout the country.

Chief Aliv Officer John Gomez said the commitment is about giving back to the people who have supported the company over the years.

“Giving back to the people who helped to make the company possible. So when we think about our customers, we think about our employees. We want to be able to reach out into the community to give back because those customers are the people who helped to support us throughout the years.”

As part of its relaunch, Cable Cares also presented a $40,000 cheque to Happy Humans Bahamas to support its Women and Girls in STEM initiative.

Gomez says the program is helping to open doors for young women in a field that has historically been dominated by men.

“So we started this partnership with Happy Humans Bahamas, and right now they have 20 girls in the first series of this program, and that’s going to expand to 40. So again, in terms of being able to expose them to technology and the sciences, to give them that foundation, and the tools and skills they need to position them for success as they move forward in their lives.”

Program Director of Happy Humans Bahamas Crachad Laing said the donation will help the organization expand its reach and create more opportunities for young people.

“Resources in the form of funding are always a bottleneck to youth impact and community engagement, and so this sort of pledge, and the sustainability of such a donation, really presents a lot of potential for what it is that we can do in our communities.”

With a $1 million commitment now on the table, and partnerships already being strengthened through programs like Women and Girls in STEM, Cable Bahamas says its relaunched Cable Cares Foundation will focus on creating long-term impact for communities across The Bahamas.
