NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A teen whose testimony led to the acquittal of a royal Bahamas Defence Force marine is now facing a perjury charge.

Prosecutors allege that on March 11, the 17-year-old girl gave false evidence during the trial of Vann Miller with the intent to deceive the court.

The teen pleaded not guilty at her arraignment before assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Deveaux and she was granted $3,000 bail.

Her trial is set for September 16.

The girl had previously testified that she met Miller online after she completed primary school and that he was aware of her age.

She said that they began a sexual relationship in 2021 when she was 12 years old and told the court that they had sex daily until March 2023, when her mother and the police caught her and Miller together.

But the teen claimed she had lied under oath when the defense recalled her to the stand on March 11, leading the trial judge Neil Brathwaite to direct the jurors to acquit Miller of unlawful sexual intercourse.
