Churches are tightening COVID restrictions ahead of the traditional watchnight service to ensure congregants remain safe.

Berthony McDermott tells us more.

The recent spike in COVID-19 cases prompting the Bahamas Christian Council to tighten safety protocols, mandating churches to accommodate reduce capacity to 25%, according to Vice President Pastor Mario Moxey.

The news comes days ahead of the traditional watch night service.

In preparation for that service, Moxey says Bahamas Harvest Church is taking steps to ensure individuals remain safe.

Another church working to ensure its congregation is safe is Living Waters Kingdom Ministries.

Both churches will hold three watch night services on December 31st to prevent the gathering of large crowds.

Living Waters will hold services at 6pm, 8pm, and 10pm while Bahamas Harvest’s services are at 7pm, 9pm, and 11pm.

The Christian community came under fire during the pandemic as many felt church services would be the center of an outbreak.

As watch night services usually draw large crowds over the years, we asked both pastors if they’re concerned.
