NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The stage is set for the championships on Friday at the Samuel P. Haven Jr. High School Soccer National Championships following an exciting night of semifinal action at the Roscow A.L. Davies soccer fields.

In the senior girls division, defending champions Lyford Cay International School defeated Queen’s College 4-1 behind a hat trick from Alethea Tsoumpas.

Isabel Suarez opened the scoring in the second minute before Alexandria Komolafe equalized for QC.

Tsoumpas answered minutes later, and Yasmin Kennedy added another before halftime to give the Dragons control.

Tsoumpas completed the hat trick late in the second half to send LCIS back to the final.

They will face C.R. Walker, who advanced with a 4-1 win over Bishop Michael Eldon.

Victoria Noel led the way with two early goals, while Georgia McPhee and Brenae Hart added second-half strikes to seal the victory.

Sherraice Saint scored the lone goal for the Warriors.

In the senior boys semifinals, Anatol Rodgers cruised past North Eleuthera 5-nil with goals from Jayden Gustave, Djino Bazam, Dalexandro Riche, Wenly Felix and Gdarwens Vasy.

Windsor School then stunned defending champions, LCIS, 2-1 to book their spot in the final against the Timberwolves.

Before the title matches, the bronze medal games will take center stage as Queen’s College faces Bishop Michael Eldon in the senior girls third-place game, while North Eleuthera takes on LCIS in the senior boys bronze medal matchup.

Bahamians Advance to D-I National Championships

The road to Eugene, Oregon continues for several Bahamian track stars after a strong opening day at the NCAA Regionals.

At the NCAA West Regionals, the University of Nebraska saw Bahamian javelin throwers Keyshawn Strachan and Augustus Henry both qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Strachan delivered a massive throw of 76 meters even, while Henry used a personal best of 72.82 meters to punch his ticket to Eugene, Oregon.

Over at the NCAA East regionals in Kentucky, Mississippi State’s Kaiden Cartwright also booked his spot to nationals in the javelin with his throw of 66.06m.

On the track, Louisiana Tech’s Oscar Smith and Tahj Brown both advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

Smith ran a season best 13.45 seconds, while Brown clocked 13.70.

Both will compete Friday for a place at the NCAA Championships.

Wanya McCoy also moved through to the men’s 200-meter quarterfinals after running a season best 20.37 seconds.

In the women’s 400 meters, Tennessee’s Javonya Valcourt clocked a lifetime best 50.57, Lacarthea Cooper moved through in 51.01 seconds, and Quincy Penn advanced in 51.14 seconds.

They will return in the 400-meter quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:50 pm looking to book their spots in Eugene.
