NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More and more women are going to the Domestic Violence Unit of The Royal Bahamas Police Force each day.

That’s according to Inspector Kendra Wallace-Whyms, who says she’s been shocked by the number of protection orders.

The RBPF’s new Domestic Violence Unit is a collaboration with the Ministry of Social Services, the Ministry of Health, The Bahamas Crisis Centre, and local NGO’s.

Wallace-Whyms says now that they’re operating as one instead of separate units, they can be much more effective.

Administrator for The Bahamas Crisis Centre, Cleopatra christie, also weighed in on the issue.
