PLP Candidates Tout Successes, Fail to Address Recent Controversies

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – The Progressive Liberal Party held back no punches at its Central-West Rally for Progress on Monday night, with supporters hearing from an all-male lineup of speakers, including incumbent Member of Parliament for Mt. Moriah, McKell Bonaby.

The PLP MP has come under fire recently after avoiding questions about increased spending at the Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority, where he is the chairman.

While he did not address the issue publicly, Bonaby used the platform to highlight some of the Davis administration’s key achievements, like raising the minimum wage by 24 percent and signing 60 industrial agreements since coming to office in 2021.

Up next was a confident Sebas Bastian, the PLP’s candidate for Ft. Charlotte.

Bastian’s nomination was recently challenged by Coalition of Independents leader Lincoln Bain, following claims that Bastian’s alleged involvement in government contracts made him ineligible to successfully nominate.

Bain took it a step further, hosting a press conference on Sunday evening to reveal his findings, leaving all eyes on Bastian for comment.

While he did not address Bain directly, he shared this moment with supporters.

Rounding off the night was PLP leader and Prime Minister Philip Davis, who continued to take jabs at the opposition Free National Movement, criticizing the FNM’s proposal for a national lottery while highlighting that, out of the 387 commitments made in its Blueprint for Change, 325 have been delivered or are in progress.

Davis also referenced FNM leader Michael Pintard’s book, “Polititricks.”

With just 21 days left in the political race, Prime Minister Davis is encouraging supporters to make their vote count.
