NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Supreme Court jury acquitted Donna Vasyli of the murder of her husband in a majority verdict of 8-1 Thursday night.

This is the second time that she stood trial for the March 24, 2015 murder of her husband, Dr Philip Vasyli, a renowned Australian podiatrist. He was found stabbed to death in the guest house of their home in Old Fort Bay.

Unlike the first trial, the press was barred from reporting the proceedings.

The jury that was impaneled last October delivered their verdict around 8:30pm on Thursday.

In October 2015, a jury unanimously convicted Vasyli of killing her husband of 34 years.

She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in 2017 and ordered a retrial after finding that the trial judge made errors in his directions to the jury.

The retrial took place after Vasyli’s legal team failed to block a second trial from taking place.
