Farmers Receive Smart Technology Grants

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some agricultural business owners looking to take their farms to the future are getting the chance to do just that with a pilot programme called The Climate Smart Technology Encouragement Grant.

The Climate Smart Technology Encouragement Grant is a collaboration between the Access Accelerator Small Business Development Corporation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs that seeks to incentivize climate smart farming.

A perfect example of what the minister describes as merging old techniques with new innovations can be heard from Vnet Multi Enterprise Operational Manager Johnelle Lewis.

For Abaco Big Bird Poultry Farm, they say the grant and transition to solar power will payoff quickly.

And Shomekhan Cargill and the mushroom producers Well Mudda Fungus have plans to make their products more sustainable and accessible for Bahamians.

Agriculture Minister Clay Sweeting says grants like this are big steps toward food security.
