NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid public outrage over the death of Bella Walker, some people have called for The Bahamas Christian Council (BCC) to be more vocal on the issue of child protection.

However, BCC President Bishop Delton Fernander insists they are working behind the scenes.

Christian Council President Bishop Delton Fernander responding to critics who suggested church leaders have been relatively quiet in the wake of the death of four-year-old Bella Walker.

One person questioned whether the Christian council is now irrelevant, while another suggested the group only appears to speak on out on certain issues.

Fernander says it’s not just up to the Christian council to take a stand on troubling matters in society.

He added it is his hope that the public will hold lawmakers’ feet to the fire to effect real change.
